Where to watch the FIFA World Cup 2026 in Newcastle
Newcastle has been revealed as one of the best places in the UK to catch the World Cup 2026 this summer – and are any of us surprised?
Newcastle has ranked the ninth-best city in the UK to watch England play at the FIFA World Cup, according to experts at Live Football Tickets (LINK OUT), who scored UK cities on affordability, pub availability, screen access and expected crowd levels.
The Toon scored 7.60 overall, but it’s the screen density that makes Newcastle stand out – boasting 1.05 screens per 1,000 residents, the second highest of any city analysed. Oh, and that pub density of 0.22 per 1,000 residents? Double London’s rate. Say no more.
FIFA World Cup 2026 fever is well and truly taking over Newcastle this summer, and we’re here to help you cheer on The Three Lions in style.
From fan zones transforming the city’s biggest spaces to beloved Newcastle pubs pulling out all the stops, there is definitely no shortage of places to watch.
Here’s our guide to where to be…
Shearer’s, St. James’ Park
Could there be a more fitting place to watch England at the World Cup than Shearer’s, right in the shadow of the cathedral of football itself? With over 50 screens showing every match live, you’ll catch every single goal in a properly football-mad atmosphere. Walk-ins are welcome, but pre-book a table and you’ll also bag 10% off drinks and 15% off food – a no-brainer.
World Cup Social, Freight Island
One of Newcastle’s most anticipated new venues, Freight Island is throwing open its doors in early June – and naturally, it’s diving straight into World Cup season. All England matches will be shown across 10 large HD screens throughout the venue’s incredible 60,000 square foot space, with live music and special guests (we hear some familiar Newcastle football faces will be making an appearance…). Ticket options range from free general admission to premium booked seats from £10 per person, and there’s a dedicated family area too – so the little ones don’t have to miss out.
The WonderBar, The Gate
The WonderBar is throwing a full party for every England World Cup match, with the action on video walls, full commentary, great food and drinks. And if you need a breather from the tension, a round of interactive darts to steady your nerves. They’re also screening every other World Cup game before 3am, so if you’re the type who wants to catch every single match, this is your place.
The Geordie Star, Westgate Road
If you’re after a proper football pub experience, The Geordie Star delivers. Multiple HD screens throughout mean there’s not a bad seat in the house, and they’ll be screening all key fixtures from the opening game to the final, including every England match live. Tickets for England’s group-stage games are just £10 and include a free drink – such a good deal.
Flight Club, Nelson Street
Darts might be Flight Club’s bread and butter, but they’re clearly football mad too. Book a table around the bar for a £25 deposit or a whole oche for up to 12 people for a £50 deposit – the latter including an hour of social darts before kick-off. All deposits are fully redeemable on food and drink, with table service available throughout.
World Cup Fanzone, Times Square
We Are Fanzones have already proved themselves with their iconic EFL and Derby Day screenings in Times Square, and they’re back in even bigger style for the World Cup. Expect a giant LED screen showing the England matches, a buzzing atmosphere packed with fellow fans, bars, street food traders and DJs before and after the games. Early-bird tickets are available from just £6.50 – snap them up while you can.
The Alchemist, Grey’s Quarter, Eldon Square
With great deals on buckets of beer and a specially curated bar food menu, The Alchemist is an under-the-radar World Cup destination. They’ll be showing all games, with sound and commentary reserved for the England matches – and you can now book tables for all Three Lions fixtures. The bar area is also available for walk-ins if you fancy keeping it casual.
STACK Newcastle
STACK Newcastle has Premium Bench packages available for groups of six or more, including a reserved bench and two drink vouchers per person on arrival. Corporate takeovers and larger group bookings are also available. Every goal, every save, every nerve-shredding moment on a massive HD screen, with immersive sound and global street food traders all around you. This is your World Cup HQ.
Percy Arms, Percy Street
A firm favourite with football fans for its buzzing matchday energy, Percy Arms is showing all World Cup games this summer. And when the sun comes out, their beer garden with outdoor screens is an absolute dream – there’s nothing better than a cold pint in the sunshine with the match on. Pure summer perfection.
Mulligans, Newgate Street
The Mulligans lot aren’t just crazy about golf, and after a recent sports bar transformation they’re going all out for the World Cup too. Mulligans has a fabulous range of booking options for all key England matches: stadium-style seats for £9.50 per person, table bookings for £10 (with two drinks for the lead booker), or the hire of a VIP booth for three hours – including a beer tower and sharing platter for £220.
It’s Coming Home Zone, Digital
Legendary Newcastle nightclub Digital is being taken over by It’s Coming Home Zone this World Cup season, with screenings of all three England group stage matches. Tickets are £15.75 and the experience goes well beyond just the football. Think DJs, live bands, singers, cheerleader performances, secret special guests and massive after parties. Win or lose, the night is not ending early here.
The Old George Inn, Old George Yard
Want to cheer on The Three Lions in Newcastle’s oldest pub? Of course you do. The Old George Inn has an unbeatable matchday atmosphere at the best of times – during the World Cup, it’s going to be something else entirely. Tables are available to reserve now for all England group stage matches, so get in quick before every last spot goes.
The Forth Hotel, Pink Lane
Feel the thrill of every goal, tackle and save at The Forth Hotel, which is promising big screens, roaring crowds and a vibrant late-night atmosphere throughout the tournament. From early group matches to the nail-biting knockouts, expect high energy and celebrations that last long after the final whistle. Tables are going fast – grab yours now.
Shark Club, Gallowgate
Always a popular haunt for the footie crowd on matchday, Shark Club on Gallowgate is now taking bookings for World Cup group stage matches. Big screen TVs throughout, great atmosphere and a Gallowgate address that feels perfectly right for World Cup season – get your booking in sharpish, because the England games will fill up fast.
Fleet Street, Pudding Chare
Even if England isn’t victorious, you could still be a World Cup winner at Fleet Street. They’re screening every England game, and when you reserve a spot for just £5, you’ll automatically be entered into Fleet Street’s Golden Ticket Draw to win the full pot of entry fees for that game. Results are drawn at halftime, and there are loads of great drink deals for the winner (and everyone else, thankfully) throughout.
CosyJoes, Groat Market
Over on Groat Market, CosyJoes will be showing all the England World Cup matches, and the deals here are so good. Tickets are just a tenner and include any three pints of your choice. There’s also 25% off all drinks until the first goal is scored. A little extra incentive to get there early, perhaps. There’s no better way to celebrate than with some karaoke, too?
The Victoria Comet, Neville Street
Conveniently located just opposite Central Station, The Victoria Comet is a fab option if you’re coming into Newcastle by Metro for the match. Big HD screens, brilliant beers and an unbeatable matchday atmosphere in a historic pub – table bookings for World Cup matches are now open.
The Mayfair, Newgate Street
The Mayfair is going full fan zone this summer, and with 18 screens and three XL projectors, you are not going to miss a single second of the action. Tickets for each England game cost £10 per person and include two bottles of Bud, Coors or VK. Cheers to that.
Bally’s, The Gate
Whether you head to one of the casino bars or to the onsite Carling Bar, Bally’s will be screening all the World Cup matches throughout June and July. Entry is free, and no reservation is needed, but for England matches, you can book a table for £17.85 per person with a pint and a pizza thrown in. A solid shout.
World Cup Fanpark, O2 City Hall
O2 City Hall is hosting what’s being billed as Newcastle’s biggest fan park, organised by 4theFans and featuring huge screens, live DJs blasting iconic England anthems, food and drink and an England legend as host. Tickets start from £6 and cover all three group stage matches plus the last 32, with a money-back guarantee if England don’t make it through – though we’re absolutely not entertaining that thought.
FRATE Open-Air Fan Zone, Ouseburn
Open-air hotspot FRATE is also hosting a World Cup Fan Zone this summer, showing every match in the tournament with free admission and no ticket needed. For guaranteed entry to England games, tickets are available from just £3. Add in DJs and great drink deals, and this is a World Cup celebration not to be missed.
Wylam Brewery Pop-Up, The Warehouse, Ouseburn
Wylam Brewery is crossing the city to host two special World Cup events at The Warehouse on Lime Street in the Ouseburn. Expect Wylam’s brilliant brews alongside big screen coverage of the England games, a VAR bar (various alcoholic refreshments, naturally), and food traders on site. Tickets start from £5.50 for the Croatia match on 17th June and the Ghana match on 23rd June.
Summer on the Southside, Gateshead Quayside
Okay, so this one technically isn’t in Newcastle – but it’s so close you’ll practically be able to hear the cheers from across the river. On the Gateshead banks of the Tyne, the outdoor beer garden set-up will be transformed into a fan park during England’s big World Cup matches, with the action shown on a large LED screen. A great shout for anyone who fancies soaking up the atmosphere with a view of the Tyne.
