The romantic Northumberland glamping destination you need to book this summer

  • Advertisement Feature

Glamping in Northumberland has had a serious glow-up, and right at the top of the list is Woodland Chase Glamping, a luxury adult-only retreat set on a working farm near Felton.

If your idea of camping involves an air mattress, a damp sleeping bag and questionable weather, it’s time to think again.

Think private wood-fired hot tubs, handcrafted interiors, fire pits under open skies and the kind of deep quiet that is almost impossible to find anywhere else.

Set amidst beautiful farmland, Woodland Chase Glamping is a collection of individually handcrafted treehouses and cabins, close enough to spectacular coastlines, Alnwick Castle and cosy local pubs to make for a perfect base to explore Northumberland.

There are four spaces to choose from, each with its own personality and charm.

THE FIELDHOUSE AND SPA

Sleeps: 2

Dog-friendly: No

Picture this. You’re soaking in a wood-heated sauna as the evening light fades over a Northumberland hayfield. Then it’s into the hot tub under a twinkling star-filled sky, the kind you only get this far from a city before heading inside to curl up in front of a wood-burning stove with a glass of something good in hand. This is The Fieldhouse and Spa, and it is exactly as good as it sounds.

The most luxurious space at Woodland Chase, the Fieldhouse boasts its own private spa complete with a wood-heated sauna, outdoor shower and a cold dunk bucket made from recycled farm materials. Inside, French doors open onto an open-plan living area where reclaimed timber, antique Victorian furniture and earthy tones create the kind of atmosphere that makes you want to stay for days.

The handcrafted wooden bed has drawers underneath filled with games and books. The bathroom features a double-ended slipper bath with views over the hayfield. There’s a small kitchen if you’d rather stay in, and a wood-burning stove to keep things cosy when the Northumberland evenings cool down. Romantic, beautiful and entirely to yourselves.

THE TREEHOUSE

Sleeps: 2

Dog-friendly: No

Woodland Chase Glamping

Imagine waking up slowly beneath a woodland canopy, pressing a button to open the electric skylight above your bed and watching the morning light filter through the trees while the world stays completely quiet outside. That is a Tuesday morning at the Woodland Chase Treehouse, and we are genuinely envious.

Nestled in woodland next to the Campbell family farm, the Treehouse is reached via a mossy path and a spiral staircase, a small adventure that sets the tone perfectly. Once inside, the space is a beautiful blend of rustic and luxurious: underfloor heating, a Chesterfield sofa, a Bose speaker and wooden features built from recycled farm materials. Outside, a wood-fired hot tub sits on a deck with panoramic views across the farmland and out towards the sea, which makes for sunsets that are genuinely hard to describe.

Picture yourself up here on a golden evening, hot tub bubbling, glass in hand, watching the sky turn over the Northumberland countryside.

For something a little more grounded but no less special, Saddler’s Cabin is inspired by the hosts’ love of horses, and it shows in the most charming way. Picture lazy mornings swinging in the hammock, afternoons on the shaded veranda in one of two rocking chairs with a book you’ve been meaning to read for months, and evenings soaking in the wood-fired hot tub with nobody else around for miles.

Inside, equine accents are tastefully scattered throughout a statement saddle in the living area, a handcrafted horseshoe hook for your keys, reclaimed wood kitchen units and walls of torched timber. The bedroom centres around a chunky four-poster bed festooned with greenery and vintage lightbulbs, and the whole thing is lit with the kind of warm glow that makes every evening feel like a special occasion.

There’s also a private fire pit for those evenings when you just want to sit outside and watch the flames.

CROFTER’S CABIN

Sleeps: 2

Dog-friendly: Yes

Woodland Chase Glamping Crofter's Cabin

Bringing your dog? Crofter’s Cabin is for you. This is the only dog-friendly space at Woodland Chase, and it has been thought through brilliantly. Picture your four-legged companion exploring the secluded fenced garden while you soak in the wood-fired hot tub, completely undisturbed under the shade of an old horse chestnut tree.

Inside, the cabin is all industrial touches, reclaimed wood accents and farming heritage. A statement leather chair anchors the living area, a wood-burning stove keeps things toasty on cooler evenings and the bedroom centres around a chunky wooden bed dressed in gorgeous Voyage fabric. There’s a Bose speaker for music, a fire pit outside for evenings under the stars, and enough peace and quiet to make you wonder why you don’t do this more often.
