The Farm Shop, Butchery and Bakehouse stock items from over 50 different local providers, including mouth-watering puddings, biscuits, cakes and condiments.

Their award-winning butchery is the perfect pick for stocking up for a special BBQ this summer, paired with veggies delivered to the shop within 15 minutes of being picked, and some home-baked bread… our mouths are watering.

North Acomb Farm Shop rear and make the majority of their produce on site. From their Aberdeen Angus to their home-baked pies and pastries and even butter, everything is about as fresh as you can get.

Head there on a Saturday afternoon for a mooch and a scoop of Morwick Dairy ice cream, and pick up some of their homemade sausages, using their own seasoning recipe, for brekkie the next day. They’re the ultimate cure for any Sunday sore head.

The Honey Tree in Heaton is an independent health food shop specialising in healthy, fresh and local organic foods. They have fresh veg delivered weekly, and fresh bread delivered daily, all sourced with taste, health and welfare in mind.

Our favourite thing about The Honey Tree is their veg boxes. Each week the team make up veg boxes based on what is in season and what customers are loving at the time – so it’s always different. Plus, if you can’t make it to the store, they can deliver – just check their website for more details.

Broom House Farm Shop won both Small Farm Shop of the Year and Farm Shop Butchery of the Year in 2023, so it’s a must visit.

Although they specialise in high quality beef, lamb and pork you can also shop lots of other local delights, like cheese, honey and dairy products, all while enjoying gorgeous views over Durham City Centre.

We recommend visiting on a weekend morning and heading to the cafe for the freshest Full English ever, with ingredients all supplied by the farm – but get there early, it’s super popular.

Brocksbushes started 40 years ago, simply selling homegrown produce from a flatbed trailer.

Now a farm shop, tearoom and ‘pick your own’ venue, it’s grown so popular that summer 2024 will see the team move into their much larger, brand new home featuring an in-house butchery, larger cafe and children’s play barn.

The Cheese Farm in Blagdon is the home of the Northumberland Cheese Company and houses a shop and cafe which will fulfil all of your fromage fantasies.

Pop into the shop in the ‘Cheese Loft’ to sample their delicious cheeses, chutneys and crackers, and pick up everything you need to assemble the perfect grazing board for your next get together. They also stock lots of locally produced beers, wines and spirits to pair with it, and the expert staff will be more than happy to advise.

Then, check out the cafe and treat yourself to an Afternoon Tea complete with sandwiches, cheese, cheese scones and sweet treats. The perfect day out.

They pride themselves on sourcing virtually all of their meat from their own farms just down the road, meaning quality and freshness are front and centre. Alongside their own produce, over 80% of what they sell comes from within 50 miles, from fresh bread, fruit and veg delivered daily to local milk, eggs, cheeses, preserves and even honey from nearby bees.

Okay, it’s a little further afield, but worth every mile.
Mainsgill is less of a quick farm shop stop and more of a full-blown foodie destination. Their huge food hall is packed with home-reared meats, local produce, homemade ready meals, cheeses, deli favourites and one of the most dangerously tempting pie counters in the North.
Their in-house bakery keeps the shelves stocked with fresh sausage rolls, quiches and cakes daily, while the fruit and veg section champions fresh seasonal produce sourced as locally as possible.
If you’re making a day of it, the tearoom is a must for a home-cooked lunch and one of their famously good cakes.
