The Cycle Hub: bike hire, coffee and the best sunsets on the Quayside

If you haven’t been to The Cycle Hub yet, allow us to fix that immediately.

Tucked on the edge of Newcastle’s iconic Quayside, this is more than just a café or a bike shop – it’s a proper community hub where people come together over great coffee, delicious food and a shared love of everything two-wheeled.

Whether you’re planning a lazy morning, hunting for your next adventure or looking for a seriously cool venue for your next event, The Cycle Hub has got you.

Here’s everything you need to know.

The Cycle Hub: bike hire, coffee and the best sunsets on the Quayside

THE VIEW ALONE IS WORTH THE TRIP

Let’s be honest – Newcastle doesn’t short-change you on scenery and The Cycle Hub might just have the best seat in the house. South-facing and sun-drenched, the outdoor deck sits right on the River Tyne with the whole Quayside skyline stretching out in front of you.

As the sun dips over the water and the iconic bridges light up the sky, there are few better places in the North East to be clutching a coffee (or a glass of Prosecco). This is the kind of view that makes you pull out your phone, snap a hundred photos and still not do it justice.

SERIOUSLY GOOD COFFEE, EVERY SINGLE DAY

The Cycle Hub takes its coffee seriously. Open seven days a week, weekdays from 9am to 3.30pm and weekends from 8:30am to 4:30pm, you’ll find fabulous coffee waiting for you, whether you’re starting your day or winding down after a long ride.

And if coffee isn’t your thing, there’s a full range of hot drinks, including luxury hot chocolates, cold drinks from the brilliant Fentimans range, milkshakes, and, when the sunshine arrives, ice lollies & ice creams. Choose a cheeky tipple from a selection of locally brewed beers, or a Prosecco if you really know how to celebrate a Saturday.

FOOD THAT ACTUALLY HITS THE SPOT

The café menu at The Cycle Hub offers freshly made sandwiches and paninis, freshly baked sausage rolls (with a vegan option too), and an incredible selection of cakes courtesy of Cake Stories bakery. If you hit lucky the aroma of scones will tempt you in!

But the real favourite? The famous bacon butties. Honestly, once you’ve had one of these after a morning on the Quayside, everything else feels like a warm-up act.

BIKE HIRE MADE EASY: MEET CYCLE CENTRE EXPRESS

The Cycle Hub is now home to Cycle Centre Express, the newest venture from the team at Cycle Centre.

Based right at The Cycle Hub on the Quayside, bike hire has never been more straightforward. Pick-up a bike if you’re feeling energetic, or an e-bike if you’re in for a smoother ride.

If you’re a seasoned cyclist why not get your bike serviced? The best bit? You can have a coffee while you wait for your bike to be ready. Starting your spring day out sipping a flat white on the Tyne before heading off on two wheels? A dream.

The routes from the Quayside are genuinely stunning – the Keelman’s Way, the Hadrian’s Cycleway and the coastline are all within easy reach – making this the perfect base for exploring the North East by bike, whether you’re a seasoned cyclist, fancy a fun day out with the kids or someone who hasn’t been on a bike since school.

HOST YOUR NEXT EVENT RIGHT HERE ON THE TYNE

Did you know that The Cycle Hub is also one of Newcastle’s most exciting event venues – and it’s completely available for exclusive hire. Birthday bash? Team away day? Wedding after-party? Summer BBQ? Whatever the occasion, this place can handle it and with serious style.

When you book The Cycle Hub exclusively, the whole space is yours for the evening – no sharing, no rushing, no awkwardly squeezing past strangers. You get the full outdoor deck with those jaw-dropping Tyne views, the flexibility to bring in your own street food van (Gyros? Tacos? Pizza? All welcome.), and a fully stocked bar inside serving locally-sourced beers, wines and spirits.

Want a DJ? Go for it. Fancy twinkly lights and laid-back seating? Sorted. Prefer a marquee and a big celebration? Also sorted. The creative freedom is entirely yours.

And if you need a helping hand pulling it all together, the lovely Jill is your person. As the events queen behind the scenes, she’s full of tips, supplier recommendations and the kind of calm, practical advice that takes the stress right out of planning. Drop her an email at [email protected], and she’ll help you make it happen.

As a bonus, by hosting your event at The Cycle Hub you’re supporting a local, community-focused social enterprise that works with brilliant local suppliers and contributes to getting more people cycling across the North East. Good times and good causes? We’ll raise a glass to that.

PLAN YOUR VISIT TO THE CYCLE HUB, NEWCASTLE QUAYSIDE
