Inside Wellness Lane: The exciting new Pilates studio, sauna and matcha café in Whitley Bay

A new wellness studio has opened in Whitley Bay, bringing a fresh approach to fitness, wellness and community, and we’re so excited for it.
Wellness Lane, founded by Katie, combines Pilates, a spa-style recovery room and a speciality matcha café, all designed to make wellbeing simple, enjoyable and accessible.
FROM BONDI TO WHITLEY BAY
Katie’s journey to opening Wellness Lane wasn’t a straight line. “I’d been working in quality control, and I hated it,” she says. “I always knew I wanted to come back, live by the coast, and run my own business.” After years abroad, she reflected on what she truly loved – Pilates, matcha, wellness, and even cold therapy – and decided, “Right, I’m going to make that my life.”
The result is an aesthetic studio inspired by the relaxed, light-filled wellness spaces of Bondi, Sydney, but tailored for Whitley Bay. “I wanted to create a space where people can move their bodies, feel good and meet like-minded people. Community is at the heart of what we do,” Katie explains.
INTRODUCTORY PILATES OFFER – 3 REFORMER CLASSES AND 3 MAT CLASSES FOR £90
For anyone curious about Pilates, Wellness Lane is running an introductory offer: three reformer classes and three mat classes for £90, all to be used within three weeks. “It’s a great way to build confidence and get a feel for the space before committing to anything longer term,” says Katie.
Classes are designed for all levels. Beginner Reformer and mat classes focus on posture, core strength and mobility, while all levels classes provide full-body workouts with options to adjust intensity.
A SPACE DESIGNED TO RECHARGE
The studio in Whitley Bay blends neutral interiors, soft lighting, and natural textures to create a calm, welcoming environment.
Upstairs, the Reformer Pilates studio features olive trees, sheer white curtains and softly curved LED mirrors, complemented by light pink Reformers – capturing that effortlessly chic, clean-girl aesthetic we all love.
Downstairs, a stunning spiral staircase leads into the Mat Pilates space, where floor-to-ceiling mirrors, LED arches and a softly lit, serene atmosphere create the perfect setting to relax, reset and grow stronger.
Katie says, “It’s somewhere you can move your body, reset for an hour and leave feeling a bit better than when you arrived.”
MATCHA WITH A PASSIONATE TWIST
Katie’s love of matcha shines through in the studio café. “When I lived in Sydney, I became slightly obsessed with matcha. I wanted to recreate that experience here in the UK because the matcha I found back home just didn’t compare,” she explains.
All drinks are refined sugar-free, made with fresh fruit and agave syrups. Flavours include raspberry, mango and coconut and blue vanilla matcha, all vegan and made with organic oat or coconut milk. “Precision is really important to me. Everything is carefully weighed so the flavour is just right,” says Katie.
MORE THAN JUST A PILATES STUDIO
Wellness Lane is designed to be more than a place to exercise – it’s a space for lifestyle, balance and connection. Katie reflects, “Before opening, I spent years in the corporate world, so I know how easy it is to get caught up in busy routines. Living in Australia really changed my perspective on work and lifestyle. People there work to live, not live to work. I wanted to bring that balance back here.”
The studio opening has already generated excitement in Whitley Bay, offering a place where people can move their bodies, reset, enjoy high-quality matcha and connect with others.
“If we can help people slow down, take care of themselves, and feel inspired to follow their passions, then that’s something I’m really proud of,”
Katie says.
