Ouseburn Farm – Free city farm & charity in Ouseburn, Newcastle

A free-to-enter working city farm tucked into an industrial pocket of Newcastle, welcoming over 40,000 visitors a year. Founded in 1976 by local families wanting their children to experience farming and animal husbandry, it’s home to everything from cows and goats to snakes and stick insects, and since 2014 has run a Placement Programme supporting adults with learning disabilities and autism through hands on farm work.

The draw: it’s genuinely free entry, always, with a small on site shop, a sensory trail, and Cafe Beam (run in partnership with Smile for Life Charity) serving food until last orders at 2pm.

Hours:

Tuesday to Sunday, 10am to 3pm (closed Mondays in term time).

Open daily including Mondays, 10am to 3pm, during school summer holidays.

Vibe check: low key and community minded rather than a slick visitor attraction, great for families with young kids or anyone wanting a bit of countryside without leaving the city. Bring cash or card for donations and animal feed, and note dogs aren’t allowed on the farmyard itself.
