Laneway is a beloved independent café brand serving speciality coffee, seasonal brunch and hand-made food from two standout locations across the North East, right in Newcastle city centre and on Tynemouth Front Street by the coast. The draw: The original High Bridge café has been serving Newcastle since June 2016, with scratch-made breakfast, brunch and lunch menus that rotate every two to three months. Its coastal sibling opened on Tynemouth’s Front Street in June 2025, brewing Allpress coffee and rotating single origin filters from 7am, just moments from the beach. The High Bridge site also has a side worth knowing about: on Friday and Saturday evenings it transforms into an evening service from 5 to 10pm, serving small and sharing plates alongside a wine and cocktail list, same relaxed atmosphere, just with the lights dimmed and the music turned up. Both cafés operate a walk-in only policy at weekends, with bookings available for groups of five or more on weekdays.

High Bridge, Newcastle: Monday to Friday, 8am to 4pm. Saturday, 9am to 5pm. Sunday, 9am to 4pm (plus evening service Friday and Saturday, 5pm to 10pm). Tynemouth: Monday to Friday, 7am to 3pm. Saturday, 7am to 4pm. Sunday, 8am to 4pm.
