Laneway & Co, the much-loved Newcastle café known for its speciality coffee, refined menus and effortlessly cool vibe, has officially expanded to Tynemouth.
Opening its doors in summer 2025, the new space brings everything people already adore about Laneway & Co – the warm hospitality, the carefully sourced ingredients, the minimalist interiors – and pairs it with laid-back coastal charm.
Just moments from the beach on Front Street, this is one of the most talked about coffee shops in Tynemouth, about seven days and week with plenty of seating, making it a standout destination for coffee lovers visiting the coast.

Laneway & Co has built a serious reputation since opening in 2016, widely recognised for serving some of the best coffee in Newcastle and the wider North East. Now, Tynemouth has its own dedicated Laneway space – and it’s open every single day.
Whether you’re popping in for a post-sea dip flat white, grabbing breakfast before work (serving starts from 7am), or finding a cosy corner for remote working, the café is designed to be a go-to spot for locals and visitors.
With plenty of indoor seating (quite rare in Tynemouth), Laneway Tynemouth is one of the few places you can settle in comfortably when the weather turns and a calming spot to people watch all day long.
COFFEE AND COASTAL CALM IN THE HEART OF TYNEMOUTH
The Laneway & Co team combines the precision and ingredient-led approach of Australian cafés with the friendly, down-to-earth hospitality the North East is known for. That balance gives their spaces a relaxed, contemporary feel – stylish without being intimidating, modern but comfortable.
Every detail is considered. They serve speciality-grade coffee from Allpress, sourced through direct trade with growers, ensuring quality and traceability in every cup. Milk comes from Acorn Dairy in Darlington and the bread from Elis Bakery in North Shields — keeping things as local as possible.
The menu changes every two to three months, always built around seasonal ingredients and thoughtful flavour combinations. Nothing is overcomplicated; everything is done well.
THE LANEWAY & CO WAY
A warm welcome, a relaxed atmosphere and seriously good coffee. The team knows their craft, but they aren’t precious about it – they just want to make the coffee Newcastle (and now Tynemouth) loves to drink.
If you’re a filter fan, try their rotating single-origin batch brew. It changes every couple of weeks and is a staff favourite – the perfect alternative to your usual long black or Americano.
Food-wise, customers are loving the shakshuka and the curried parsnip soup, both full of flavour and ideal for chilly days by the sea. Everything on the brunch and lunch menu is made from scratch in the Laneway kitchen.

Breakfast and brunch
Porridge with spiced apples, French toast with chai custard, house-made granola, shakshuka with feta and dukkah, dippy eggs and soldiers, avocado on sourdough, mushrooms on toast with cashew cream and the signature breakfast sandwich (with a veggie option available).
Lunch
From 11am, expect toasted sourdough sandwiches, a roast chicken club, creamy leek and cheese toasties with dipping sauce, fresh focaccia sandwiches, and seasonal soups like their popular curried parsnip with tahini cream.
Coffee and drinks
All the classics – lattes, flat whites, piccolos and long blacks – alongside single-origin batch brew, teas, iced drinks, matcha, hot chocolate and a standout chai.
