North Pennines Stargazing Festival – County Durham
The North Pennines Stargazing Festival returns for its tenth edition, running across the darkest mainland National Landscape in the country with almost 30 events over more than two weeks.
Organised by the North Pennines National Landscape team alongside a range of local businesses, every event comes with expert astronomer guides on hand to help make sense of the night sky. Highlights include stargazing suppers at High Force Hotel, dark sky astronomy nights at Grassholme Observatory, an Aurora night, a guided dark skies run along the High Force and Bowlees Geotrail, lantern making paired with a night-time mine trip at Nenthead, a star camp at Doe Park Caravan Site, and a stargazing train departing Stanhope Station on the Weardale Railway.
A self-guided Creatures of the Night trail at Bowlees Visitor Centre runs throughout with no booking required, while every other event must be booked in advance, and spaces are limited, several sessions have already sold out.
