Seaham Hall’s new Sunday lunch is here, and it’s seriously delicious

Seaham Hall, the five-star hotel and spa on the Durham Coast, has launched its first-ever Sunday lunch.
It’s served in The Dining Room every Sunday from 12.30pm to 2.30pm, with two courses for £37 and three for £45.
We’re talking dry-aged Cumbrian beef, roast potatoes cooked in beef fat, and a bread and butter pudding made with croissants, all in a clifftop Georgian mansion.
If you’ve been looking for a reason to spend a slow Sunday by the sea, this is it.
Here’s what’s on the table…
THE SUNDAY LUNCH DURHAM’S BEEN WAITING FOR
You’ll find Seaham Hall perched high above the North Sea about six miles south of Sunderland and 13 miles east of Durham. It’s the Georgian country house where Lord Byron married Annabella Milbanke back in 1815, and these days it’s one of the North East’s most-loved places to switch off.
The new Sunday lunch gives you a proper sit-down roast with sea views and zero washing up. If you’re after Sunday lunch in Durham with a coastal backdrop, Seaham Hall is hard to beat. Gather your favourite people, settle in, and let the afternoon stretch out.
Honestly, it’s the kind of Sunday you’ll want to make a habit of.
STARTERS YOU’LL WANT TO SAVE ROOM FOR
Kick things off with warm sourdough made with Wildfarmed flours and served with whipped organic butter. It’s a small thing, but bread this good sets the tone for everything that follows.
Then there’s smoked salmon from John Ross of Aberdeenshire, piled onto a toasted, buttery sourdough crumpet with cultured cream and fresh dill. If you fancy something lighter, the Wye Valley asparagus and wild garlic velouté comes with a cloud of whipped ewe’s curds. Fans of a charcuterie board will love the 36-month aged prosciutto, served with crisp celeriac and apple.
The menu moves with the seasons, so expect a few new faces as the year rolls on.

THE MAIN EVENT: 3 ROASTS, ALL THE TRIMMINGS
This is where Seaham Hall really shows off. The roast sirloin of dry-aged Cumbrian beef is the headline act, while the slow-roasted Gloucester Old Spot pork arrives with a sticky baked apple sauce.
Both roasts come with a golden Yorkshire pudding, roasted roots, beef fat roast potatoes, and buttered greens, all brought together with rich, glossy gravy. If roast meat isn’t your thing, the roasted fillet of cod with salsa verde, fennel compote, and buttered Jersey Royals is fresh, zingy, and every bit as satisfying.
Feeling hungry? Add cauliflower cheese, extra beef fat roasties, or more gravy. No judgement here.
PUDDING ISN’T OPTIONAL
Whatever you do, don’t skip dessert. The Sicilian orange and almond cake is zesty and moist, finished with a silky 72% Valrhona chocolate ganache.
Our pick, though, is the croissant bread and butter pudding, all crisp edges and soft, custardy centre, served with warm vanilla custard. If you’d rather go savoury, the British cheese plate comes with flapjack, malt loaf, and apple compote. Comfort food doesn’t get much better than this.
LET THE TEAM PICK YOUR WINE
Not sure what goes with dry-aged beef or buttery cod? You don’t need to be a wine buff. The knowledgeable team at Seaham Hall will help you find the perfect pairing for your plate.
They’ll talk you through the flavours in each glass and explain exactly why it works with what you’ve ordered. It’s relaxed, friendly, and the easiest way to turn a good lunch into a great one.
A DINING ROOM WITH SERIOUS STYLE
The Dining Room is a love letter to the hall’s heritage. Glittering 14-carat gold-plated chandeliers hang from the ceiling, and tall Georgian windows look out over the grounds, hinting at Seaham Hall’s grand past.
But don’t let the sparkle fool you. The vibe today is relaxed rather than stuffy, so the food gets to do the talking. Come as you are, order the extra roasties, and enjoy it.
