NE1 Newcastle Restaurant Week returns next week – here’s where we’ll be booking
There are few things we love more than discovering new Newcastle restaurants, but doing it for less? Even better.
NE1 Newcastle Restaurant Week is back from Monday 3rd to Sunday 9th August, giving foodies the perfect excuse to book that table you’ve been eyeing up or revisit an old favourite.
With more than 120 Newcastle restaurants taking part, there’s never been a better time to eat your way around the city, one delicious deal at a time.
Gaucho
2-6 Market Street, Newcastle upon Tyne NE1 6JF
The deal: Two courses and a cocktail for £25
Tucked inside a Grade-II listed former bank on Market Street, Gaucho brings a slice of Buenos Aires to the city centre. This kind of deal transforms Gaucho from a special-occasion-only restaurant to a date night at the right price. With grass-fed steaks cooked on the parrilla grill, empanadas with an array of fillings and the star of the show – their coconut panna cotta – all for just £25, we know where we’ll be booking first.
Café Filto
Ground Floor Fenwick, 39 Northumberland Street, Newcastle upon Tyne NE1 7AS
The deal: Two courses for £20
Café Filto’s spot on Fenwick’s lower ground is the sort of place you duck into for one of its famous iced drinks, and this Newcastle Restaurant Week we guarantee you’ll want to stay longer. Your meal begins with a complimentary bowl of olives (need we say more?) and plenty of plates to choose from. Start with the light, fresh watermelon and feta salad, then move on to their iconic steak and eggs – brunch done properly.
Hotel Gotham
Pilgrim Street, Newcastle upon Tyne NE1 6SE
The deal: Two courses for £25
If luxury dining has been on your Newcastle bucket list, Newcastle Restaurant Week is the perfect time to tick it off. Hotel Gotham’s Siren restaurant is serving up a two-course menu for £25, giving you the chance to experience one of the city’s most talked-about new restaurants without the usual splurge. Expect beautifully presented seasonal dishes, impeccable service and an effortlessly glamorous setting that’ll make any lunch or dinner feel like a special occasion.
Sanco
The Forge, Forth Banks, Newcastle upon Tyne NE1 3AA
The deal: Bottomless pizza and a dessert for £20
Sanco does things a little differently. No menu, just Neapolitan slices arriving fresh from the Gozney wood-fired oven, one by one, until you’ve had your fill. It’s a fun and quirky way to spend an evening, and you are guaranteed to get your money’s worth. Leave the light on for as long as you can, and they’ll keep the slices coming, but don’t forget to leave room for dessert. Their lemon sorbet is exactly what you need after lashings of spicy pepperoni and creamy burrata.
The French Quarter

The deal: Two courses for £20, or three courses for £25
Hidden beneath the railway arches on Westgate Road, The French Quarter proves French dining doesn’t have to be formal. Expect rich, comforting classics served in a relaxed setting that’s made for long lunches and even longer evenings, with plates made for sharing and wines worth savouring; it’s hard to say no to a deal this good.
Colmans, Fenwick Newcastle

The deal: Two courses for £15, or three courses for £20
Colmans has been perfecting fish and chips for five generations, and it’s bringing that coastal charm to Newcastle Restaurant Week once again this August. We’d obviously recommend the prime cod, fried in that famously light batter and served with thick-cut chips, but be sure to finish it off with a light and airy Eton Mess, the perfect finish. At £15 for two courses, this might just be the deal of the week.
Cafe Andaluz
87-89 Grey Street, Newcastle Upon Tyne NE1 6EG
The deal: Breakfast for two for £20, three tapas at lunch for £15, three tapas and dessert at lunch for £20 or three tapas and dessert at dinner for £20.
Sitting directly opposite Newcastle Theatre Royal, Cafe Andaluz is a love letter to Spain and always delicious, the perfect stop-off before catching a show in the city. Colourful tapas, authentic Spanish flavours and plenty of sangria make it one of Grey Street’s liveliest restaurants. Better still, with offers across breakfast, lunch and dinner, there’s every excuse to visit more than once.
KHAI KHAI

The deal: A pre-starter, a small plate and a heritage dish for £25
Just off the quayside, Khai Khai cooks up heritage Indian dishes over hot stones, coals and open flames, serving flavours that’ll transport you to India. Their famous tandoori broccoli features on their set menu, a great excuse to try it if you haven’t already; it most definitely lives up to the hype.
Lui’s
25 King Street, Newcastle upon Tyne NE1 3UQ
The deal: Two-course lunch for £20, a three-course lunch for £25 or a three-course dinner for £25 per person – all served family-style to share.
Down on the Quayside, Lui’s spaghetti scoglio comes loaded with mussels, tiger prawns and squid, and it’s a guaranteed crowd-pleaser. Their stone-baked pizzas are worth a mention too, if you prefer to keep things simple. Lui’s is a relaxed bistro, well suited to a long evening with nowhere else to be, especially with a Quayside view to sit back and enjoy.
Lubber Kitchen
83 Blandford Street, Newcastle upon Tyne NE1 3PZ
The deal: Two-course lunch for £20, a three-course lunch for £25 or a three-course dinner for £25 per person – all served family-style to share
Lubber Kitchen’s sharing menu changes with the seasons, and this August brings chicken liver and nduja polpette and house-baked focaccia, perfect for dipping. Everything is served family-style, so bring your loved ones and get ready to share and pass plates. Be sure to leave room for the dark chocolate mousse with Marsala-soaked cherries; it’s the sort of dessert you’ll be thinking about for weeks after.
