At ÂPRE Hair Concept, sustainability, science and self-expression come together to create a salon experience that’s redefining what it means to get your hair done in Newcastle.
Warm, practical and always a little bit high-fashion, owner Matty Bradshaw and his team have become the North East’s go-to for effortless luxury- the kind of cuts and colours that grow out beautifully, enhance your natural texture and look good with minimal effort.
ÂPRE Hair Concept isn’t one to gatekeep, so we sat down with Matty to find out exactly how he and his team can help us go from frazzled to flawless this summer and get the top hair trends for the summer.

THE CUT EVERYONE’S ASKING FOR
If there’s one look dominating the chair at ÂPRE right now, it’s soft, undone movement.
“Currently we are loads of requests for that airy bob, softer layers, with more movement and texture,” says Matty. “This is the effortless look that everyone is going for right now, more lived-in.”
Alongside the bob, another era is having a moment. “We are also still so much of the 90s supermodel hair with the long face-framing layers,” he adds, proof that some trends never really leave, they just get a modern update.
WARMER, SOFTER AND HONEYED TONES
Colour is following the same relaxed brief this season. “The summer is definitely swaying to the warmer cascade, clients are wanting that teddy-bear bronde. The soft suede muted brunettes,” Matty explains. “And lots of honey, strawberry and cinnamon tones.”
Think sun-warmed rather than sun-bleached, tones that look like they’ve built up naturally over a summer spent outdoors rather than hours in the chair.
THE ONE CUT TO BOOK FOR A SUMMER REFRESH
For anyone due a change, Matty has a clear recommendation. “Embrace the layers and the shaping. Summer is the perfect time for air drying your hair,” he says. “Id say go for an airy bob, sitting collar length, lots of movement, you can easily tuck one side or accessorise it. Super effortless without the hard work.”
It’s a cut built for the season, one that works whether you’re straight off a flight or straight out of the sea.
Low maintenance, high impact. Busy schedules call for hair that does the work for you, and Matty says the answer lies in the fringe.
“Head for more of a wispy or feathered fringe, face-framing; these grow out a lot softer and require a lot less maintenance,” he says. “These are perfect for twisting up or clawing back. Still leave you feeling like you’ve created something without doing anything.”
THE TREATMENT YOUR HAIR NEEDS THIS SUMMER
Sun exposure takes a real toll on hair health, and Matty is direct about the fix. “Hydrate, hydrate, hydrate!” he says.
“Your hair will be so much more dehydrated with the sun, id generally suggest opting for a strong film-forming treatment to add that extra lustre and shine through the harsher months and seal the moisture deep inside.”
THE CELEBRITY INFLUENCE BEHIND THE LOOK
Scroll through social media right now and you’ll see exactly where the inspiration is coming from.
“You are definitely seeing the rise of moderating perming via social media, I think its the effortless but still finished look that everyone is going for,” says Matty. “Or the really airy finish, a lot less structured, more movement, think Hailey Bieber, or even Harry Styles for the shorter cuts. A lot more effortless appeal, less structure more freedom.”
PROTECTING HAIR FROM SUN, SEA AND CHLORINE
Whether it’s a beach day or a pool day, protection is non-negotiable according to Matty. “Id suggest using a product like OWAY sunway serum, its a dry oil for the hair and body that protects from UV sun, salt sea and chlorine,” he says. “Regularly applying that before and when you are out during the summer and using a deep nourishing treatment that will hydrate your hair after, but also help remove the chemical residue if you’ve been in water.”
THE ONE CHANGE WORTH MAKING THIS SUMMER
If you only take one piece of advice away, make it this. “Less tight bobbles, everyone is so tempted to scrape their hair back in the heat and use really aggressive super tight elastics more frequently than needed,” Matty says. “Id say switch to a claw clip to keep it away and consider using a twist and pin method, it’s more gentler and looks more chic.”
Effortless, hydrated and full of movement, that’s the ÂPRE approach to summer hair, and with Matty and his team behind the chair, going from frazzled to flawless has never looked easier.
