Looking for a spot to slow down, get inspired and enjoy a proper cultural day out with a bit of brunch in Newcastle? The Biscuit Factory is the place.

Tucked into Newcastle’s buzzing Ouseburn quarter, this independent Newcastle art gallery, café and private-hire venue is full of surprises: walls of original art, gifts you won’t see anywhere else, seasonal food that hits the spot, and a friendly, come-as-you-are vibe that makes it easy to lose track of time.

Open every day, the gallery welcomes everyone, from seasoned collectors to anyone just curious about contemporary art. Paintings, prints, sculptures, ceramics, textiles, jewellery… there’s a treasure to discover at every turn.

And if you’re not sure where to start, the team is always on hand to help you find something you love, whether it’s your first purchase or the latest addition to your collection.

A FRESH CHAPTER

Spring always feels like a reset, and The Biscuit Factory is embracing it wholeheartedly. The gallery has had a bit of a makeover: neutral walls, thoughtfully curated collections and a programme designed to help us slow down, enjoy the art and connect with the makers behind it.

The café side, The Factory Kitchen, has had a refresh too. The all-day brunch menu now sits alongside a seasonal lunch menu, full of fresh, local ingredients. New wood panelling gives the space a warmer, cosier feel, and a rooftop refresh is on the way for early summer. Visiting feels like a proper day out in the city.

HOW TO SPEND A DAY AT THE BISCUIT FACTORY

If you’ve got a free day, The Biscuit Factory is more than just your average ‘art gallery near me’ – it’s an experience. Here’s how to make the most of it.

GET CREATIVE

Fancy trying something different? Sign up for one of the relaxed, artist-led workshops. From monotype printing and landscape pastels to ceramics and textile portraits, there’s a session for every interest. You’ll leave with something handmade and a proper sense of achievement and maybe even a new hobby. No pressure, just creativity and fun.

WHAT’S ON

GRAB SOME LUNCH OR BRUNCH IN NEWCASTLE

After a morning of art and inspiration, The Factory Kitchen is the perfect pit stop and a hidden gem café in Newcastle. Brunch, lunch or afternoon tea (served on the last Sunday of every month), it’s all seasonal, fresh and made from local produce wherever possible.

Pull up a chair with a friend, soak in the Ouseburn views and enjoy catching up in a space that feels relaxed and welcoming. Whether you’re after brunch in Newcastle, a light lunch or even a place to work remotely from, it’s a spot that hits the mark.

BOOK A TABLE

SOAK UP THE ART

Right now, the headline exhibition is Where The Light Falls by Hester Berry – a collection of landscapes that encourages quiet reflection and makes you want to pause and really look.

Early Summer brings Still/Life by Jo Sharpe, a series of floral oil paintings that offer a gentle, uplifting pause in the day. Either way, there’s always something to admire, contemplate or even just enjoy in the calm of the gallery.
