Fenwick Christmas Window 2025 is… A Christmas Carol. Here’s a look back through the ages

This year, Fenwick is bringing a twist on ‘A Christmas Carol’ through its 2025 Fenwick Christmas Window display.

The 2025 Fenwick Christmas Window, a celebration of family, community and the joy of storytelling, has officially been revealed as the festive classic, ‘A Christmas Carol’ by Charles Dickens.

Following last year’s widely loved Christmas Window, which showcased author and illustrator, Chris Riddell’s modern reinterpretation of ‘The Twelve Days of Christmas’, Fenwick has partnered with the former Children’s Laureate again to bring this years’ theme to life.

Set in Victorian England, the window series features the traditional scenes from Charles Dickens’ beloved novel, and follows the heartwarming tale of Ebenezer Scrooge, who after years of famously rejecting Christmas cheer, is visited by the ghosts of past, present and yet to come who lead him on a journey of self-reflection. Through these encounters, Scrooge learns compassion, generosity and the true spirit of Christmas…

The 2025 Fenwick Christmas window display will be open to view from Monday 3rd November, throughout the festive season.

A HISTORY OF THE ICONIC FENWICK CHRISTMAS WINDOW

Fenwick Christmas Window Through The ages - 2024 The Twelve Days of Christmas

The Twelve Days of Christmas, 2024

Last year’s window series told the heartwarming story of Foggy, a determined partridge with a special Christmas wish… to make his pear tree grow. Foggy’s adventure unfolded through a series of enchanting scenes, from Santa’s Design Studio, where Two Turtle Doves, Three French Hens, and Four Calling Birds were hard at work, through to the Secret Workshop…

The Chronicles of Narnia, 2023

2023 saw Fenwick’s Christmas Window theme as The Chronicles of Narnia, The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe by C.S. Lewis, depicting the beloved tale of four curious children discovering the magical world of Narnia. Peter, Susan, Edmund, and Lucy stepped through the magical wardrobe to embark on a fantastical adventure with Aslan and Mr. Tumnus, where they navigated the land of eternal winter which had been enchanted by the White Witch.

The first Fenwick Window – Camberwick Green, 1971

Fenwick first took the brave step to devote an entire shop window to festive animation in 1971, when they began their collaboration with the German-based One World Studio to recreate the popular children’s TV series Camberwick Green. With stop-motion puppets Captain Snort, Private Featherby and fan favourite Windy Miller began a festive tradition that would continue for more than half a century.

Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, 2019

A much-loved year, 2019’s puppet portrayal of Willy Wonka, Charlie and Grandpa Joe was expertly created in the style of Roald Dahl’s original (and instantly recognisable) illustrator, Quentin Blake. Genius.

Quentin Blake style figures of Willy Wonka, Charlie and Grandpa Joe. They stand in front of a glass elevator. This was the Christmas window display at Fenwick Newcastle in 2019.
An older man holds a small boy in his arms. The man stands beside the Fenwick Christmas window and points at an alien playing a drum. This was part of the 2002 Christmas window display at Fenwick Newcastle.

Christmas in Another World, 2002

Everyone remembers Fenwick’s 2002 window, although not always for the best reasons. Don’t get us wrong, the famous (or is it ‘infamous’ now?) Aliens were well produced but definitely divided opinions, following the slightly more traditional A Christmas Carol and Santa’s Journey. Whether you loved or hated them, though, you’re unlikely to forget them.

A huge figurine of a giant man lying down fills the Fenwick window display. Tiny figurines stand on top of him. This was a Gulliver's Travels themed window display at Fenwick Newcastle in 2006.
