A Sam Fender night to karaoke on ice: Life Science Centre ice rink returns

Christmas in Newcastle is about to get a whole lot cooler (literally) as Life Science Centre’s beloved ice rink returns.
From Saturday 8th November, the iconic open-air ice rink returns to Times Square, marking the start of our city’s festive season.
Whether you’re a seasoned skater, a total beginner or just looking for something to do in Newcastle with kids, this is your chance to glide underneath the twinkling lights and soak up the magic of the season.
And opening weekend tickets are just £10. Spaces are limited, so book online now before they sell out.
Skating sessions last around an hour (with 45 minutes on the ice) and run all the way through to Sunday 4th January.

Noughties Night on Ice
Friday 14th November 2025, various times
From Sugababes to Arctic Monkeys, skate your way through the noughties and relive the glory days.
Karaoke on Ice
Wednesday 19th November 2025, various times
This might just be the coolest karaoke night in Newcastle. Choose your song, hit the high notes and skate while you sing. Mic, lyrics and ice included.
Skate it Off – The Taylor Swift Night
Saturday 15th November 2025, various times
Swifties, assemble. This fan-favourite returns with back-to-back Taylor hits, friendship bracelets and plenty of Eras Tour energy.
Seventeen Going Skating
Thursday 20th November 2025, various times
The ultimate Sam Fender night. Skate to Seventeen Going Under, Hypersonic Missiles and all his biggest hits in the heart of Newcastle. NUFC shirts encouraged.
Be Our Guest: Musicals Night on Ice
Sunday 23rd November 2025, various times
Disney, The Greatest Showman, Mamma Mia! – you name it, they are probably on the playlist. Costumes are encouraged and sing-alongs are inevitable. Book before Sunday 9th November to enter the draw for Disney on Ice tickets
Wicked Skating Night

Skate like you’re defying gravity at this Wicked-themed night – perfect for theatre and movie fans. Green face paint optional.
Lady Gaga Little Monsters Skate

Skate Like a K-pop Star

Christmas Eve Skate
Wednesday 24th December 2025
Looking for a new Christmas tradition? Round up the family for a festive spin on the ice. First skate at 10am, last at 4pm. Book early – no walk-ups on the day.
Prefer a calmer atmosphere? Relaxed sessions with no music or flashing lights are available on Sundays 16th November, 7th December and 4th January.

Once you’ve finished on the ice, head inside to explore Life Science Centre’s festive programme – it’s perfect for families, couples and anyone who loves a bit of Christmas magic.

The Santa Experience
Saturday 22nd November – Tuesday 23rd December 2025
This sell-out favourite is back and better than ever. Enjoy a hot chocolate with Santa’s elf, visit Santa’s house for a special live show featuring fun and festive demos (including the fate of unwanted sprouts!) and meet the man himself.
Each £26 ticket includes a festive gift, a sweet treat and hot chocolate as well as free entry to the full science centre – making it great value for money.
What Santa Sees 360° Immersive Dome Show
From Saturday 8th November
Join Santa and his reindeer as they soar across the night sky in this breathtaking 360° immersive dome show. Watch the stars sparkle above you as Santa races to deliver gifts before dawn – a real Christmas must-see.
More festive fun indoors
Get creative in the Making Studios, where you can craft your own festive decorations or gifts to take home. Explore the magic of light, reflection, and colour in the Experiment Zone, and brighten your day with interactive exhibits in Lightbox.
Little ones will love the Play Zone, perfect for building, exploring, and letting their imaginations run wild. Then, blast off in the Space Zone to see what it’s like to be an astronaut!
