We’ve discovered the North East’s only dog photography studio creating precious paw-traits

If your camera roll is 90% your dog (and the other 10% is blurry attempts to get them to stay still),  Darren Irwin Photography is here to the rescue.

This is Newcastle’s only photography studio 100% dedicated to dog portraits, capturing the waggiest of tails, big puppy dog eyes and a whole lot of personality.

We all know how our dogs aren’t just pets – they’re family. And capturing that love in a professional portrait? That’s something you’ll cherish long after the muddy walks and chewed slippers are just funny stories.

MEET THE NORTH EAST’S DOG-DEVOTED PHOTOGRAPHER

Tucked away in High Bridge Works, right in the heart of Newcastle, Darren Irwin has built something so unique: a photography studio that celebrates dogs.

While plenty of photographers offer pet shoots alongside weddings and family sessions, Darren’s all-in approach means he knows exactly how to get your pup’s best side.

As Darren says:

“Every dog has their own spark – that look in their eyes, that silly grin, that way they tilt their head when you say ‘walkies’. My job is to capture that personality and freeze it forever.”

CAPTURING YOUR CANINE’S CHARACTER

Let’s be honest – one of the hardest parts of having a dog is how quickly they grow up. One minute they’re chasing their tail, the next they’re snoozing by the fire with a greying face.

That’s why these portraits mean so much. They capture a moment — a look, a smile and a wag — that you’ll treasure forever.

“It’s not just about taking a nice photo,” Darren says. “It’s about capturing the heart of who they are, so you can remember them exactly that way.”

We all love snapping endless photos of our pups, but a professional portrait goes beyond that. A phone catches a moment — Darren captures a feeling. His relaxed, dog-led sessions are all about bringing out each dog’s unique personality, whether they’re shy, playful or full of zoomies.

And if your dog’s a little nervous? No problem. Darren works at their pace, using patience (and plenty of treats) to keep tails wagging.

HOW IT ALL WORKS

Before your session, Darren gives you a quick call to get to know your dog – their quirks, their energy levels and what makes them tick.

On the day, you can just sit back and proudly watch your pup become a model. Shoots usually last around 45 minutes, which is plenty of time to capture a range of poses and expressions.

Once the session’s done, Darren selects the best portraits and edits them to absolute perfection. Then comes the best bit – your viewing appointment, where you’ll see a slideshow of all those adorable shots and pick your favourites.

You can choose from premium framed wall art, modern acrylic prints, albums and print boxes – all handmade by an award-winning lab right here in the North East.

It’s all about creating something you can proudly display at home – a lasting tribute to your four-legged best friend.
