THE AWARD-WINNING WEST END SHOW

In Pride and Prejudice* (*sort of), the classic story is infused with a modern flair. Think Elizabeth Bennet’s trials and tribulations set to a karaoke soundtrack brimming with pop hits like Young Hearts Run Free, Will You Love Me Tomorrow and You’re So Vain. It’s a mashup you never knew you needed, but won’t be able to resist once you see it in action.

This retelling, narrated by the female servants, captures the spirit of Austen’s original work while giving it a fresh, feminist twist. It’s funny, clever and unapologetically bold – much like Austen herself.

WHY YOU SHOULD SEE IT WHILE YOU CAN

Pride and Prejudice (Sort of) is a comic retelling of the iconic love story by Jane Austen. This is the second tour for this rather unique show written and directed by Isobel McArthur.  The show was a massive hit at the Edinburgh Fringe way back in 2021, with the show recently returning for a new run, kicking off a Newcastle Theatre Royal until Saturday 28th September before it embarks on a nationwide 35-date tour.

In this version, five actors take the roles of the young servants as they retell one of the most famous stories in all of literature; they also play all the characters from the novel, including the main character, Elizabeth Bennett and Mr Darcy. Not only that, but the cast also belts their hearts out to a karaoke playlist with a string of pop classics.

You don’t have to be a fan of Jane Austen or her works to enjoy this show. It’s packed to the brim with funny moments that will have you laughing your socks off and making your eyes water.

In the production we saw at HLN, the audience absolutely loved it, and if you get a chance to see it, you won’t be disappointed…
