This autumn, Raby Castle, Park and Gardens is set to dazzle with an extraordinary event, The Glittering North, blending light, music and storytelling into a mesmerising experience.
The Glittering North will light up Raby Castle, Park and Gardens on select dates from Saturday 12th October until Saturday 3rd November 2024.
The new vibrant event celebrates the North East’s rich Norse and Viking heritage. Expect to be enchanted by tales of folklore and myth, brought to life through live music, dance and captivating puppetry that springs to life as the sun sets.

A SEASONAL ADVENTURE FOR ALL AGES
This event promises a lively, fun-filled carnival atmosphere, perfect for the whole family. Whether sipping hot chocolate with marshmallows or stomping your feet to folk music, you’ll find something magical at every turn.
The creative geniuses at Wild Rumpus have crafted a light-filled trail that winds through Raby Castle’s grounds, offering everything from enchanting spaces with uplifting music to immersive stories of adventure and legend.
EXPERIENCE THE MAGIC OF AUTUMN NIGHTS
Get ready for a spectacular autumnal celebration like no other. With cosy nights, warm blankets and torchlight processions, Raby Castle invites you to embrace the season’s magic.
Wander through the gardens and heritage buildings at your leisure, getting up close to the characters of The Glittering North as they weave their stories amidst the illuminated landscape. The event will feature mythical figures like Gullinburstin, the golden-bristled boar and Sleipnir, the eight-legged horse, alongside a dazzling recreation of the northern lights in the newly remodelled Walled Garden.

Beyond the light trails, visitors can enjoy the festively decorated Dutch Barn, with lively folk musicians, fire performers and a welcoming atmosphere. The Riding School will also transform into a cosy storytelling space, where tales of Norse gods and mythical beasts await.
After exploring the grounds, you can relax at the new Vinery café restaurant, offering delicious food and drinks with stunning sunset views of Raby Castle. Don’t forget to browse the autumn and Christmas collections in the Coach House gift shop, where you’ll find a selection of high-quality, artisan items.
A UNIQUE EVENT IN A STUNNING SETTING
“We wanted to create something truly special this autumn, especially with our new event spaces at Raby Castle,” says Sophie Brown, Sales and Events Manager at Raby Estate.
“The Glittering North is a magical way to usher in the winter season, inviting everyone to step into a world of folklore and enchantment. Wild Rumpus has designed this event to perfectly complement our stunning surroundings, with breathtaking illuminations that are sure to captivate visitors.”
Tickets are priced at £20 for adults and £13 for children, and they’re expected to go fast.
