A TRIUMPHANT RETURN
This production marks a significant moment for Newcastle Theatre Royal, as it’s their first co-production in over a decade. And what a comeback it is. Following a sold-out run in 2023, this Oliver and Evening Standard award-winning comedy is set to make a triumphant return.

MEET ISOBEL MCARTHUR: THE CREATIVE GENIUS
The brain behind Pride and Prejudice* (*sort of) is none other than writer and director Isobel McArthur. McArthur is one of the most exciting talents in theatre today, having achieved the remarkable feat of winning both an Olivier Award and an Evening Standard Award – an unprecedented accomplishment for a young female writer. But here’s the best part – McArthur insists that you don’t need to be a Jane Austen expert – or even know anything about her books – to thoroughly enjoy this show.

AUSTEN WITH A TWIST
In Pride and Prejudice* (*sort of), the classic story is infused with a modern flair. Think Elizabeth Bennet’s trials and tribulations set to a karaoke soundtrack brimming with pop hits like Young Hearts Run Free, Will You Love Me Tomorrow and You’re So Vain. It’s a mashup you never knew you needed but won’t be able to resist once you see it in action.
This retelling, narrated by the female servants, captures the spirit of Austen’s original work while giving it a fresh, feminist twist. It’s funny, clever and unapologetically bold – much like Austen herself.

THE JOURNEY SO FAR
Pride and Prejudice* (*sort of) first captivated audiences at the Tron Theatre in Glasgow in 2018. It quickly gained momentum, with a 2019 tour that included sold-out shows at Northern Stage. When the production made its Newcastle Theatre Royal debut in early 2023, it was met with five-star reviews and standing ovations. The love for this show is undeniable, and its return is eagerly anticipated.

A TALENTED CAST
Bringing this lively adaptation to life is a stellar cast, featuring Emma Rose Creaner, Eleanor Kane, Rhianna McGreevy, Naomi Preston Low, Christine Steel and Georgia Firth.
Hailing from Washington, Tyne and Wear, Isobel Donkin and Newcastle’s own Susie Barrett will also be joining the company. These actors will not only take on 18 essential characters from the original 119 but also tackle lightning-fast costume changes, play instruments, sing and handle all scene changes (talk about multitasking!)
