Pride month is drawing to a close worldwide, but that doesn’t mean it’s time to stop celebrating.
Pride was established in 1970, and has been celebrated every year since. It first came a year after the Stonewall Riots, a series of gay liberation riots which took place in New York in 1969, and has since evolved into a colourful celebration, supporting LGBTQ+ people across the globe.
And the North East is no different, with communities across the region getting together to show up for LGBTQ+ people through a host of different events.
With June being the official Pride Month, some cities, like Durham and Sunderland, have already enjoyed their pride celebrations – but there’s plenty more to get involved in this Summer.
From parades to festivals, family friendly events to parties, there’s something for everyone.
