Baltic Centre for Contemporary Art

Baltic – Contemporary art gallery on Gateshead Quayside

Four floors of contemporary art, two viewing decks, a cafe, shop, library, sensory room and rooftop restaurant, all housed in the former flour mill on Gateshead Quayside. Baltic has welcomed 10 million visitors to date and runs a genuinely strong rotating exhibition programme, currently including Chitra Ganesh’s Journey to the Great Below and Tish Murtha & Kuba Ryniewicz’s Close to Home.

The draw: free entry to the exhibitions, a weekly guided Quayside tour every Saturday exploring the local history of the area, plus a full events calendar spanning things like the Baltic Beer Festival and family carnival days.

Hours:

Wed-Sun 10am-6pm

Closed Mon-Tue

Vibe check: a genuine cultural landmark for the region, easy to pair with a wider Quayside visit, and the rooftop restaurant makes it worth lingering for a meal with a view too.
