Make and Mend Exhibition – Newcastle

Belsay Hall will host Make and Mend, a new collaborative exhibition between English Heritage and Northumbria University, opening on 27 June and running through September.

Bringing together around 20 artists, Make and Mend invites creative responses to the Hall’s rich heritage through a diverse range of disciplines, including textiles, furniture, photography, and architectural studies. The exhibition blends traditional craftsmanship with contemporary techniques, celebrating both the history of making and the ongoing art of preservation.

The project builds on previous collaborations at Brinkburn Priory in 2023 and Aydon Castle in 2022. Together, these initiatives form part of a wider programme dedicated to highlighting the specialist skills required to create, conserve, and care for historic places.

With its longstanding reputation for showcasing art, Belsay Hall provides a fitting backdrop for Make and Mend, where history and creativity are thoughtfully interwoven
