Grate Cheese Fest – Newcastle
Summerhill Bowling Club hosts Newcastle’s first ever cheese festival, as independent Jesmond cheesemonger Grate marks its sixth birthday with a day dedicated entirely to the good stuff.
Cheesemakers from across Britain and Ireland come to Newcastle to meet the people who eat their cheese, with well-known names including Baron Bigod, Blackmount, Doddington and Shepherd’s Purse on hand to talk through the history and craft behind each one. Local producers Newcastle Cocktail Kitchen, Northumbrian Pantry and Belly of the Beast also take part.
Cheesemakers rarely sell directly to the public, so it’s a genuine chance to hear from them in person before buying their cheese from Grate itself, who’ll be selling on the day. International cheese judge and author Carlos Yescas MCs throughout, interviewing the makers and signing copies of his book, One Cheese to Rule Them All.
