Ballet Black at 25 – County Durham
Cassa Pancho’s Ballet Black celebrates its 25th anniversary with a landmark double bill at Gala Durham, marking a quarter of a century of bold new ballet.
The programme pairs Ingoma, the 2019 choreographic debut of former company dancer Mthuthuzeli November, inspired by the 1946 South African miners’ strike and winner of both an Olivier Award and the Black British Theatre Award for Best Dance Production, with a joyful new commission from Alvin Ailey royalty and two-time Bessie Award winner Hope Boykin, making her UK choreographic debut. Together they celebrate 25 years of a company that’s transformed British ballet, creating opportunities for dancers and artists of Black and Asian descent.
