The Ivy is finally opening in Newcastle on 1st December: it’s time to book your table

It’s been rumoured, teased and talked about for years, and now it’s finally happening.

The Ivy is opening on Grey Street this December, and if you’ve got a Christmas get-together to plan (or just a very good excuse for a long lunch), you’ll want to get in early.

BOOK YOUR TABLE

Walk into a showstopper

Forget a plain old dining room. The Ivy Newcastle Brasserie is moving into the former Lloyds banking hall dating back to 1839, right in the heart of Newcastle.

Think 4.5-metre ceilings, original arched windows, bespoke wallpapers and glowing green onyx, all designed by UK designer and artist Adam Ellis.

It’s historic grandeur with a glamorous twist, and we suspect your camera roll is about to get very full.

What we’re ordering

The menu runs from breakfast right through to dinner, seven days a week, so there’s an Ivy moment for every mood.

Start with something to share. Truffle arancini and zucchini fritti are both on the list, and if you’re feeling fancy you can add a tin of Imperial caviar to any dish (we highly recommend). Then it’s on to The Ivy signatures: a twice-baked cheese soufflé with black truffle, a crispy duck salad, and Severn and Wye smoked salmon.

For mains, expect comfort with a bit of polish. There’s the iconic Ivy shepherd’s pie, proper fish and chips in The Ivy 1917 batter, chicken Milanese with truffle sauce and The Ivy burger with triple-cooked chips. Lobster linguine is served at the table, and steak lovers can go for sirloin, fillet or a 12oz rib-eye on the bone. Prefer something lighter or plant-based? There are curries and a tempura prawn poke bowl too.

Early bird? The Brasserie opens its doors at 8.30am every day, with breakfast and brunch menus made for a slow morning over coffee, or a catch up with friends before the work day begins.

Your Christmas table, sorted

This is the one to book now. The Christmas set menu runs until 29th December for groups of up to 12, and it’s £55 for two courses or £65 for three. That includes a cracker, a side and a mince pie with tea or coffee, so it’s a very easy way to feed a team, a friend group or the whole family.

On the menu: turkey ballotine with all the trimmings, pan-fried sea bass with caviar, and a crème brûlée flambéed at your table. Add a Baileys chocolate bombe for a little extra if you’re in a celebratory mood.
