Siren at Hotel Gotham is bringing 1920s Manhattan glamour to Pilgrim Street

If you’re after a night out that feels like an occasion rather than just dinner, Siren at Hotel Gotham deserves to be top of your list.
Tucked inside the hotel on Pilgrim Street, the restaurant takes its cues from the golden age of New York dining, all Italian-American supper club energy, and its current menu leans fully into that mood.
The vibe
Think 1920s Manhattan rather than modern minimalism. Siren is built around bold flavours, generous sharing plates and the kind of hospitality that makes any night feel like a Saturday. It works equally well for a long, indulgent lunch, an intimate dinner for two, or cocktails that stretch well past your original booking time.
What to order
From cicchetti through to dessert, and there’s plenty worth lingering over.
Start with the small plates. The Lindisfarne oyster Rockefeller nods to the North East, while the Siren parmesan grissini with prosciutto and whipped ricotta is an easy crowd-pleaser at the table.
For something more substantial, the pasta section is where Siren really shows off. The agnolotti di testa di maiale (pig’s head, nduja and vodka sauce) and the tagliatelle alla carbonara con capesante, made with king scallop, pork belly and cured egg yolk, are both the kind of dishes worth building a booking around – and you can’t get them anywhere else in Newcastle.
If you’re going all in, the grill section has a 1kg tomahawk to share, alongside fillet and New York strip steaks, all served with roasted vine plum tomato, flat mushroom and a salsa verde gem lettuce wedge. Vegetarians aren’t an afterthought either, with dishes like the doppio raviolo di patate e tartufo (potato and truffle ravioli with amaretti) and a caprese salad made with homemade mozzarella.
Save room for dessert, because you’ll be thinking about the tiramisu for days, and the Gotham Bocker, a build-your-own sundae with homemade ice creams, Chantilly cream and macerated fruit, is a fun way to finish if you’re sharing (or not).
Make it a Sunday tradition
Siren also runs a dedicated Sunday set menu, priced at £36 for two courses or £40 for three, served from 12.30pm to 5pm. Starters include burrata with broad beans and pesto calabrese, a beef carpaccio with black garlic and Parmigiano Reggiano, and a citrus cured chalk stream trout.
For the main event, you’re looking at an indulgent roast: treacle cured sirloin of beef, porchetta with soft herb and black garlic, or roasted leg of lamb with rosemary and thyme, all served with mash, carrot, parsnip, cauliflower cheese and a Yorkshire pudding. There’s a pan roasted Scottish salmon and a vegan tagliatelle all’arrabbiata for anyone after something lighter, and you can finish with a ricotta tart, crème brulee or a trio of British cheeses for a £5 supplement.

Booking Christmas Day
If you’d rather not cook this year, Siren’s Christmas Day lunch is already open for booking at £155 per person, with Gotham Prosecco and snacks on arrival. The five-course menu starts with a choice of butternut squash tatin, a pressing of confit chicken and chestnut, or whiskey and orange cured Loch Duart salmon, followed by a roasted parsnip and pear soup.
Mains include a traditional turkey breast with all the trimmings, pan fried fillet of beef with a wild mushroom and port sauce, roasted cod with a black mussel and champagne sauce, or a heritage beetroot and hazelnut tart for anyone going meat-free.
There’s a cheese course before dessert, with choices including a dark chocolate and clementine gateaux, an egg nog brulee, or a classic Christmas pudding with brandy cream. Given how quickly Christmas Day bookings tend to go, it’s worth getting in early.
Turn it into a Sunday night away
If you need an after-lunch lie down without an Uber home, Hotel Gotham’s Siren Sunday Escape lets you turn dinner into an overnight stay. Spend £75 or more in Siren on a Sunday and you can unlock a room from just £75, meaning you can enjoy your meal and a few paired drinks without watching the clock.

Relax after lunch in one of Gotham’s signature plush, slightly theatrical, rooms. It’s room only as standard, but breakfast can be added the next morning if you’d rather not rush off. Availability is limited each Sunday and supplements apply if you fancy upgrading your room, so it’s worth booking ahead rather than turning up on spec.
