Kynren – The Storied Lands is finally open – here’s what to expect

When?

Kynren – The Storied Lands runs from Saturday 18th July to 12th September 2026, with the day park open Tuesday to Sunday from 10:30am to 4:30pm, and closed on Mondays.

The evening show, Kynren – An Epic Tale of England, takes place every Saturday night from sunset, usually around 9:00pm, with extra performances on Friday 21st August and Friday 4th September.

THE LOST FEATHER WILL HAVE YOU HOLDING YOUR BREATH

More than 250 birds take flight above you in this show, set inside a spectacular nest-inspired arena, and we’ll admit we didn’t fully believe it until we saw it. African grey crowned cranes, scarlet macaws, falcons, eagles and owls swoop, soar and glide through mist, water and light, scored by an original piece recorded by the BBC Concert Orchestra. The story follows a young bird guardian and a wise elder exploring humanity’s bond with the natural world, and we found ourselves properly invested in it. The finale, a mass flight filling the entire sky above you, is the moment we’re still telling everyone about. We’re rarely lost for words, but this took our breath away.

LAND OF THE VIKINGS COMES WITH ITS OWN VILLAGE

This one’s a two-part experience, and it’s better for it. Before the show, we wandered through a fully realised Viking settlement at our own pace, felt the heat of the forge and watched sparks fly from the blacksmith’s hammer. We could easily have spent another hour just pottering about the cookhouse gardens. Then we took our seats in the 1,250-seat arena for a high-energy show where fire rages, shields clash and a Norse community is torn apart by ambition and betrayal. The calm of the settlement made the chaos of the show hit us even harder.

THE TRUSTY STEED WILL BLOW YOU AWAY

A young woman’s world collapses overnight when her father is imprisoned and her land seized, leaving her with only a wild horse no one believes can be tamed. What follows is a story about trust, built slowly between two wounded souls, and we found ourselves rooting for them both within minutes. The Trusty Steed combines elite trick riding and fearless horsemanship with genuine emotional storytelling, and the horses are extraordinary. We’ll be honest, by the end, we’d completely forgotten to breathe.

TURNING YOUR DAY INTO A DAY-TO-NIGHT EXPERIENCE

We’ve been watching Kynren’s evening show, An Epic Tale of England, for years, and it’s always been something special to us. Seeing how The Storied Lands adds to that legacy, rather than competing with it, is what makes this feel like such a natural step up for Kynren as a whole, and honestly, it’s the version of Kynren we’ve been hoping for.

On Saturdays and selected Fridays, you can add the evening show onto your day ticket and watch the sun go down over County Durham before the story continues after dark. We’re already planning our next visit around it.
