Love the outdoors? These North East hiking groups are calling
There’s no doubt that fresh air is one of the best ways to clear your head.
These local hiking groups make it easy to explore more of what’s on your doorstep while meeting like-minded people along the way.
So, if you’ve been waiting for a sign to step outside, this is it.
Tyne to Summit
A community group that creates a safe, welcoming space where people can enjoy being in nature and connect with fellow adventurers who share a passion for the outdoors. Tyne to Summit gives like-minded people the opportunity to explore Northumberland National Park and come together when doing so. So if you want to get outdoors with like-minded people, this group is calling your name.
Radio Ramblers
Based in the North East of England, this hiking group gives a space for people to come together and enjoy an informal countryside walk. Organising monthly walks on the last Sunday of each month, Radio Ramblers is perfect if you’re looking for a safe space to push yourself and explore more of what is on your doorstep.
Love Her Wild
Starting out as a small Facebook group to connect and inspire women to get outdoors, Love Her Wild has grown into one of the largest non-profit outdoor communities in the world. Offering regional groups, with the North East included, this organisation helps women of all abilities get outside, with a mission to build confidence and outdoor skills.
Phoenix Walking Club
This long-established walking group is based in North Tyneside and has been organising regular country walks for many years, making it a great starting point for people looking to begin their hiking journey. Phoenix Walking Club operates on a membership basis but is not shy about welcoming new members to give it a go before signing up.
Stockton Rambling Club
This community-focused walking club is as inclusive as you can get, allowing people of all different abilities come together to explore countryside paths across northern England and beyond. The Ramblers are not short of experience, having been encouraging people to enjoy walking, nature and social friendship for over 70 years. So if you’re looking for a trusted group that will get your rambling journey started, this group is a great place to start.
The Ramblers
The Ramblers Tyneside Group is a local branch of The Ramblers, Britain’s largest walking charity that organises group walks all over the UK. If you want to have a walk in the diary but don’t want to have to deal with all of the planning and admin that goes with it, this group is the perfect one to get involved with. The Ramblers will take care of the planning, allowing you just to enjoy the North East scenery and connect with like-minded people along the way.
New Perspectives (Hartlepool)
This community walking group focuses on promoting well-being, inclusivity, and social support through walking. Run by a local mental health and well-being organisation, New Perspectives, it aims to help people connect with nature, improve their fitness gently, and build community through regular walks. So if getting outside whilst making meaningful connections sounds like what you’re after, this group could be the one for you.
Girls Who Walk
With tackling loneliness at the forefront of what they do, Girls Who Walk is a Sunderland-based female walking group that helps bring local women together for relaxed and regular strolls. It offers a space where women can get together a few times every month for an enjoyable walk and chat, whilst getting outdoors and being able to feel confident exploring what is on their doorstep.
