If you’re on the hunt for a beautiful escape just outside Newcastle, Bradley Gardens might be exactly what you’re looking for.
Tucked away in the Tyne Valley, this luxurious 18th-century walled garden feels like stepping into a slower, gentler world. It’s only nine miles from the city, but once you’re through the gates, it feels a million miles away.
Bradley Gardens has quickly become a favourite spot for anyone wanting a peaceful day out without travelling far.
With independent shops, the stunning Glasshouse Café, a home and garden store, and gorgeous grounds that look incredible in every season, it’s the kind of place you visit once and immediately plan to return to.
Whether you’re there for Sunday lunch, a wander or one of their special events, it’s easy to see why locals like to call it one of Northumberland’s best-kept secrets.
BRADLEY GARDENS IN AUTUMN/WINTER
There’s something especially magical about Bradley Gardens during the colder months. In autumn, the gardens glow with golden leaves, soft sunlight and that earthy scent of the season. It’s the perfect time to explore the gardens or browse around the shops for cosy home pieces and early Christmas gifts and decorations.
As winter settles in, Bradley transforms again. Twinkling lights, festive decorations and seasonal displays make the garden feel warm and inviting, even on the chilliest days. There’s a lovely balance of calm and festive cheer – ideal if you’re looking for somewhere relaxed to enjoy the run-up to Christmas.

A DINING DESTINATION YOU WISH YOU KNEW ABOUT SOONER
The Glasshouse Café
At the heart of Bradley Gardens sits the Glasshouse Café – a welcoming space set inside a lovingly restored 19th-century glasshouse. Once used for growing fruit for Bradley Hall, it now serves breakfast, lunch, and indulgent afternoon teas from Tuesday to Sunday.
Inside, you’ll find flickering fires on crisp days and a relaxing, sunlit atmosphere when the weather’s warm enough to sit outdoors. The views of the walled garden are stunning year-round.
Head Chef Barry Forster and his team create fresh, seasonal dishes — homemade soups, sandwiches, comfort-food classics, and delicious desserts. Afternoon teas are a favourite, especially the sparkling option with prosecco or a Bellini.
