Seasonal coffees, fresh doughnuts and creative workshops – our go-to North Shields cafe this cosy season
- Advertisement Feature
Pumpkin spice latte season is officially brewing… and we can’t think of a better place for a seasonal sip than R Place in North Shields.
When the leaves turn golden and the knitwear makes its annual comeback, this little café is our first stop for frothy warm cups, freshly baked doughnuts and creative workshops.
Because let’s be honest: autumn is the season of snacks, sips and self-care – and R Place serves up all these feel-good seasonal vibes.
ALL THE ESSENTIALS: COFFEE, DOUGHNUTS AND VIBES
Since 2017, R Place has been fuelling our caffeine habits and doughnut cravings across the North East. First a market favourite, now located on Nile Street, this proudly woman-owned café has become a true community hub.
And did we mention it’s dog-friendly? Yes, your pooch can enjoy the cosy season too, with puppucinos and plenty of treats.
WHY WE’RE FALLING FOR IT
Of course, you can grab a coffee from a chain. But what you won’t get is the warmth, personality and local love poured into every cup at R Place. Their beans come from Tynemouth Coffee Company, their ingredients are sourced as locally as possible and their doughnuts are proudly American-style and unapologetically extra.
Step through the door and you’re wrapped in their coastal-cowgirl cosy vibe. Think fairy lights, window seats perfect for people-watching and seasonal lattes that taste like autumn in a mug. This is PSL paradise, but with a twist: maple spice, tiramisu and even banana coffee (don’t judge until you’ve tried it).
This autumn, treat yourself to a doughnut (or three), grab a seasonal sip and maybe even book a workshop. Because what better way to beat seasonal depression disorder than with coffee, sprinkles and a little seasonal sip?
SEASONAL TREATS TO BRIGHTEN UP ANY AUTUMNAL DAY
Okay, let’s talk about the main event – doughnuts. Their classic pink-sprinkle Do’hnut is legendary in North Shields (it sells out fast for a reason). Cake pops? Gone in a flash.
But this season, their new limited-edition creations are stealing the show:
Maple Bacon D’ohnut – maple syrup frosting topped with a crispy piece of bacon. Sweet, salty and seriously good.
Pumpkin Glaze Donut – topped with a pumpkin marshmallow and curls of white chocolate. Pure autumn in one bite.
Kinder Donut – stuffed with Kinder spread, sprinkled with chocolate chips and Kinder pieces. A choc-lover’s dream.
Cake Pops – red velvet dipped in white chocolate or carrot cake with creamy frosting.
Donut Holes – bite-sized, dusted in powdered sugar and cinnamon – because sometimes simple is perfect.
Basically, every sip and bite here comes with a side of nostalgia and a sprinkle of fun.
SIP BACK AND RELAX
If you’re more about the sipping than the snacking, R Place has you covered. Slide into a window seat (perfect for watching the world go by) and get cosy with something soothing. The strawberry matcha is a surprise favourite – earthy, sweet and refreshing – while the hot chocolate is rich, creamy and basically a hug in a cup.
R Place is less “grab-and-go” and more “sit-and-stay-a-while.” The vibe practically insists that you slow down, sip slowly and soak up the cosy atmosphere – it’s a perfect remote working spot.
