THE VIBE

As we stepped into Social Bird we were greeted with a chic, smart and elegant vibe with a rebellious spirit. The Newcastle restaurant strikes a perfect balance between laid-back vibes and exciting energy, making it ideal for everything from co-working sessions to relaxed catchups. We’ll be definitely coming back to co-work here soon – (more about that later.)

The bold, warm, earthy tones, green hues and timber accents made us feel welcome and relaxed as soon as we sat down. The stone-top bar, integrated lighting and suspended feature pendants add a touch of sophistication, creating a modern yet inviting atmosphere. Beyond great cocktails and chicken, the restaurant hosts live music nights, aiming to be a hub for the local community to enjoy sustainable, ethical food in a relaxed environment. And the friendly staff were always on hand to help and made us feel right at home.

THE FOOD

Now, let’s get to the main event – the food. Social Bird has got you covered from morning to night, starting with hearty-cooked breakfasts and continuing with delicious burgers and their famous Chicken Schnitzels for lunch and dinner. And don’t worry veggies and vegans – there are plenty of tasty options for you too.

Social Bird is passionate about its local community, collaborating with other businesses like Tynemouth Coffee, Newcastle Gin, Pure Knead and Hadrian’s Border Brewery to curate a genuinely local menu.

After our visit, we can confirm we left stuffed – and there’s no better feeling than that.

Menu Highlights:

Starters

Social Bird really knows how to get things started with options like Mac ‘n’ Cheese, Sticky Bang Bang Cauliflower and Shakshuka. It’s tough to pick just one.

Signature Dishes

Their Chicken Schnitzel, Chicken and Waffles and Slow-Roasted Birds are must-tries. On our visit, Beth went for the Chicken Schnitzel and loved it so much that she’s still talking about it. The Slow-Roasted Bird comes in whole, half or quarter portions, so you can choose what suits your appetite.

Burger Menu

Get ready for mouth-watering and juicy burgers. Rachael chose the Classic Bird with a chicken fillet, lettuce, pickles, cheese and mayo but had her eyes on the Dirty Bird with mac ’n’ cheese and the Spicy Bird with Frank’s Red Hot Buffalo sauce and zingy blue cheese sauce, too.

Veggie Options

The Veggie Bird (crispy Quorn fillet, lettuce, pickles, cheese, mayo) and Vegan Bird (Crispy Quorn fillet, lettuce, house slaw, pickles, plant-based mayo) are delicious.

Breakfast Menu

Social Bird also offers a diverse breakfast menu for sit-in and to-go customers, featuring dishes like Full English, Oat Milk Pancakes and a Smoothie Bowl.

Deli Counter Options

For lunch, indulge in their deli counter, serving a rotating selection of freshly made sandwiches, wraps and pastries.

THE DRINKS

Their bespoke bar, with arched detailing inspired by the Tyne Bridge, serves up meticulously crafted cocktails, mocktails, local beers, wines, spirits and a variety of soft and hot beverages. We had to explore the Social Bird Signature cocktail menu – it would be rude not to. Beth fancied spicing things up by ordering a Casamigos Spicy Marg (Casamigos Blanco, triple sec, lime, pineapple and jalapeño) and Rach went for a refreshing Social Spritz (Chase Rhubarb & Bramley Apple Gin, prosecco, lemonade and lemon)
