The Cluny, Ouseburn

The Cluny – Live music venue, bar and gig space in Ouseburn, Newcastle

The Cluny is one of Newcastle’s best known independent live music venues, set in the Ouseburn valley with two spaces: the main Cluny room and the smaller Cluny 2, which also hosts theatre, comedy and spoken word. It runs a packed calendar of gigs across genres, from punk and metal nights to tribute acts and touring bands.

The draw: the sheer breadth and frequency of live music on offer, most evening gigs start at 8pm with an 11pm curfew for the music itself, though the bar stays open later on weekends. There’s also a decent sized free car park just off Foundry Lane, which is handy for a venue in this part of town.

Hours:

Monday to Thursday 12pm to 11pm

Friday and Saturday 12pm to midnight

Sunday 12pm to 10.30pm.

Vibe check: unpretentious, music first and a genuine local institution rather than a slick commercial venue. Most evening gigs carry an 18+ restriction, so worth checking listings if bringing anyone younger.
