The Alnwick Garden

The Alnwick Garden – Contemporary garden & visitor attraction in Alnwick, Northumberland

Created by the Duchess of Northumberland in 2001, this is a deliberately unconventional garden — think the mysterious Bamboo Labyrinth, the notorious Poison Garden, and the dramatic Grand Cascade fountains, alongside more traditional Ornamental and Rose Gardens. It’s a registered charity that changes character across the seasons, so no two visits are quite the same. The adjoining Lilidorei attraction offers an additional fantasy-themed experience for families.

The draw: the Poison Garden tour (genuinely one of the more unusual garden experiences in the UK), the cascading fountains as a centrepiece, and a strong food & drink offering on site.

Hours: Currently (summer) open daily 10am–6pm; hours shift seasonally (Wed–Sun 10am–5pm in quieter months) — worth checking the current schedule before visiting.

Vibe check: a proper day-out destination rather than a quick stop — family-friendly, seasonal, and best paired with a ticket bought in advance.
