Northern Rye Ouseburn – Microbakery and coffee shop in Ouseburn, Newcastle
Northern Rye’s original Bakeshop, opened in 2020 on Riverside Walk in Ouseburn. It’s a small batch microbakery known for long fermentation techniques and quality ingredients, including regeneratively grown Wildfarmed flour and Estate Dairy butter, with fresh bread, viennoiserie, coffee and sandwiches made on site.
The draw: their pastries and sourdough supply some of the region’s best restaurants, so you’re getting the same bread served at Michelin starred tables. There’s also a larder selection of stocked goods from other small producers, plus seats inside and out to enjoy the riverside setting.
Hours:
Monday to Friday 8.30am to 4.30pm
Saturday 9.30am to 4.30pm.
Closed Sunday.
Vibe check: a proper working bakery feel rather than a polished café chain, good for a coffee and pastry stop while wandering Ouseburn. Seating is limited so it’s more of a grab and go or quick sit down spot.
