Huts in the Hills, Northumberland
Huts in the Hills – luxury shepherd’s huts, Northumberland
Huts in the Hills offer a selection of unique, luxury shepherd’s huts, set in a tranquil spot in the Northumberland countryside overlooking the Cheviots. Run by Jamie and Nicola, who live on site at Prendwick Farm with their three young daughters, the huts were born from a simple aim: to create rustic luxury in the countryside, a place to switch off and unwind.
The draw: Five individually named huts, The Hütte, Maylies, Cheviot, Hedgehope and Dunmore, so there’s something to suit everyone, from a two storey Swiss style retreat to a stargazing window above the bed. Though made from solid reclaimed oak with hand forged wheels and sheep’s wool insulation, each hut is filled with luxurious touches: crisp Egyptian cotton sheets, a power shower, fridge, oven, hob, wood burner and flushing toilet. Outside, every hut has its own fire pit and an antique outdoor bath for soaking in those Cheviot views, and you can add a breakfast basket delivered straight to your door. Jamie also runs the farm itself, including a flock of Valais Blacknose sheep, while Nicola, a Food and Human Nutrition graduate, looks after the huts and food side of things.
Address: Prendwick Farm, Whittingham, Alnwick, Northumberland, NE66 4UZ
Hours: Check in from 3pm (please arrive at the office between 3pm and 5pm to collect your key), check out by 10:30am. A two night minimum stay applies, and there are no pets allowed, as the huts sit on a working farm with livestock.
Vibe check: Rustic luxury done properly, remote, romantic and made for slowing right down, whether that’s stargazing from the bed or soaking in an outdoor bath under Northumberland’s dark skies.
