Turner Prize 2026 – Middlesbrough
MIMA hosts the Turner Prize 2026, Britain’s biggest art prize, bringing four shortlisted artists whose work spans welded steel figures, oil-industry castings and a live performance built from spoken word and horn.
Named after JMW Turner and running since 1984, past winners include Damien Hirst, Steve McQueen and Jasleen Kaur, with an independent panel picking four artists each year for an outstanding exhibition or presentation from the past twelve months. This year’s shortlist brings Marguerite Humeau’s speculative sculptures in beeswax and hand-blown glass, Simeon Barclay’s aluminium and steel works exploring class and memory, Tanoa Sasraku’s textiles and oil-industry castings, and Kira Freije’s welded steel figures cast from people in her own life.
The winner is announced on 10th December.
