The Fourth Estate: Journalism in 2026 – Sunderland
Pop Recs / Sonny’s Coffee & Kitchen hosts Sunderland Lit & Phil Society’s panel discussion on the state of modern media, exploring what journalism really looks like in 2026.
Both sides of the political spectrum claim mainstream media is against them, yet the media itself feels under siege, so you’ll get to dig into what’s really going on beyond the usual “digital killed print” narrative.
Host Auburn Langley is joined by Rachel Charlton-Dailey, journalist at The Canary and author of Ramping Up Rights, Grace Stewart-Piercy, freelance broadcast journalist for BBC Tees and BBC Newcastle, and Meg McWilliams, Editor-in-Chief of RADGE Mag, a working-class magazine mixing art, fashion, politics and commentary.
Doors open at 6:30pm, with the panel starting at 7pm, a break at 8pm, and an audience Q&A to follow, before the group heads across the road to the Bridge Hotel Vaults to honour the old Lit & Phil tradition.
