Heartwood (Sycamore Gap) – BALTIC
Heartwood presents five prints taken from a disc of the trunk of Sycamore Gap, the beloved Northumberland tree which was felled in September 2023.
Artist printmaker Shona Branigan captures the rings, grooves and intricate details of the tree’s cross-section, creating a memorial to the natural monument.
Displayed together, this is the first official artistic response to the Sycamore Gap after its felling and should evoke memories of the North East’s famous tree for many visitors.
