Free Family Entertainment – South Shields
South Shields Market Square is hosting a season of free family entertainment on selected Saturdays, with a changing line-up of live music, storytelling and festive fun run by Local Heroes, the team behind much-loved markets in Jesmond, Sheepfolds and Hebburn.
Held outside The Word in the historic Market Square, it’s a lovely, free way to spend a Saturday in town, with something for all ages.
Here’s what’s coming up this season:
- Saturday 31st October — spooky Halloween face painting, with a range of frightfully fun designs for children and families
- Saturday 7th November — magical storytelling with author-illustrator Hannah Graham
- Thursday 19th November — a visit from Santa and his Elf (11am to 4pm), plus uplifting tunes from the Harton Harmonisers Choir and free face painting. It wouldn’t be the lead-up to Christmas without a light switch on, meet Santa, see the lights and get in the festive feels.
- Saturday 28th November — live music from Westoe Brass Band, one of South Tyneside’s best-loved groups (11am to 1pm)
- Saturday 5th December — singer-songwriter Jen Stevens performs popular songs and crowd favourites (1pm to 3pm)
- Saturday 19th December — Jen Stevens returns alongside Bubble Play, with giant bubble displays for younger visitors (1pm to 3pm)
More activities are being added throughout the season, so it’s worth checking back for the latest line-up.
