Festival of Archaeology – Yeavering – Northumberland

Step back into Anglo-Saxon Northumbria at Yeavering, site of the region’s royal Summer Palace four miles from Wooler, where the Festival of Archaeology returns on Friday 31st July and Saturday 1st August. Run with the Gefrin Trust, Durham University and Ad Gefrin, it’s a proper hands-on history day out, not just something to watch from the sidelines.

From 10am to 4pm daily, wander a working Anglo-Saxon encampment, meet the team behind Ad Gefrin’s Museum On The Road, catch expert talks and tours, try geophysical survey or bring your own finds for identification, with refreshments provided in the field. A new evening Lumiere light show runs on Friday from 9pm to 11pm. Under 16s go free, and dogs on leads are welcome.
