balletLORENT’s Hansel & Gretel and the Witch – Newcastle
Newcastle’s balletLORENT premieres Hansel & Gretel and the Witch at Northern Stage, a fresh, dance theatre retelling of the classic fairytale with a brand new ending.
Suitable for ages 5 and over, the production features nine professional dancers alongside balletLORENT’s Youth Academy, narrated throughout by north east-born actor Gina McKee, with words by former poet laureate Carol Ann Duffy and music from Doctor Who composer Murray Gold.
Expect a sugar glass house, a regenerating witch and two giant chickens among the surprises, with almost everything on stage handmade, including knitted props crafted by balletLORENT’s over-60s Knitters, Movers and Shakers group.
