Arts and Crafts in the Pop Up Ashington Group Hut – Northumberland

Woodhorn Museum’s Pop Up Ashington Group Hut, designed by artist Imogen Cloët, is running a summer of drop-in craft sessions until Monday 31st August.

The hut takes its inspiration from the very shed where the Ashington Group, better known as the Pitmen Painters, once gathered to paint and talk art.

Each fortnight brings a new activity devised by artist Paul Merrick, from football pennants inspired by Oliver Kilbourn’s Half Time at the Rec (Welfare) (1937) to imaginary brass instruments and whippet portraits based on George Blessed’s Whippets. No booking needed, and it’s included with an Annual Pass to Woodhorn Museum.
