The Woodland Chase treehouse is the glamping escape that’s worth the hype – here’s what to expect

So many places call a raised cabin a “treehouse” when really it’s just a cabin on stilts. This one is different. You arrive along winding country roads, park up in your own dedicated treehouse parking spot, then follow a path through the trees until the treehouse itself comes into view, almost camouflaged. There are actually trees growing up through the decking of the balcony. It is, unmistakably, a treehouse.

That balcony is where you’ll want to spend most of your time. There are two lounger chairs perfect for curling up under a blanket with a book, a table and chair set for breakfast with uninterrupted views across the countryside, and a wood fired hot tub that makes the whole trip worth it on its own. Underneath the treehouse there’s a swing chair and a fire pit, both strung with fairy lights, and once evening comes and those lights are switched on along the edge of the balcony, the whole place takes on a completely different, quietly magical atmosphere.

Part of the appeal is what’s on the doorstep. Woodland Chase sits close enough to Alnwick Castle, the Northumberland coastline and a handful of cosy local pubs that you could easily fill a few days exploring, but the treehouse itself is tempting enough that plenty of guests admit they never made it further than the hot tub. That’s the point of a stay here. It’s less about ticking off an itinerary and more about giving yourself permission to slow right down, something that gets harder to do the closer you get to a screen or a to do list.

There’s also something to be said for the time of year you visit. A summer evening on that balcony, with the fairy lights on and the countryside stretching out in front of you, is a completely different experience to a crisp autumn stay with the wood burner going and the stargazing roof coming into its own after dark. Either way, the treehouse seems built to be enjoyed whatever the season.
