Breamish Valley Cottages near Powburn in Northumberland has opened a golf simulator, bookable seven days a week from £15 for 30 minutes, and you don’t need to be staying on site to use it.

Breamish Valley Cottages, the award-winning collection of luxury self-catering cottages, has just opened its own golf simulator. It joins a spa, 36-foot indoor heated pool, sauna, steam room, jacuzzi, gym, flotation room and treatment rooms, plus The Bosk restaurant and wine bar, all within walking distance on the same site at the foot of the Cheviots.

Which is to say: there is now a very good way to spend an afternoon in Northumberland.

Golf simulator prices and booking

The ProTee VX golf simulator is one of the most immersive golf simulation experiences available, unlocking thousands of highly realistic golf courses, online tournaments, practice modes and multiplayer gameplay. Open seven days a week, it can be booked in flexible slots from 30 minutes up to three hours, with prices starting at £15 for 30 minutes. The team’s advice is to allow around 30 minutes per person to get the most out of a session, so the more golfers in your group, the longer you’ll want to book.

It’s a relaxed, sociable set-up rather than a formal driving range, which makes it good for a rainy afternoon, a get-together with friends, or simply a new way to spend a couple of hours. Golfers of all ages are welcome, though anyone under-16 needs to be accompanied by an adult.

The fun part: this isn’t just for guests. Anyone can book a session, whether or not you’re staying in one of the cottages.

Food and drink from The Bosk without leaving your round

One of the nicest touches is how easy it is to make an afternoon of it. You can order food and drinks straight to the simulator by scanning a QR code, with everything coming from The Bosk, Breamish Valley’s much-loved restaurant and wine bar. No need to break away mid-round.

The spa at Breamish Valley Cottages

Beyond the golf, the spa remains one of the real draws of a stay here. The indoor heated pool is the centrepiece, kept at a steady 30°C and stretching 36 feet, flanked by a hardwood sauna, a starry-ceilinged steam room and a bubbling jacuzzi. A fully equipped gym covers everything from rowers and cross-trainers to a vibration plate, for anyone determined to keep a routine going on holiday.

For something quieter, there is a private flotation room offering a zero-gravity float in near-total silence. On the treatment side, their resident therapist offers a full menu of massages including hot stone, Neal’s Yard Remedies facials, manicures, pedicures, waxing and brow treatments, all bookable in advance. Gift vouchers are available too, which makes the spa an easy add-on whether you’re staying on site or just popping in for the afternoon.

Six cottages to know, sleeping four to six

For anyone wanting to turn a golf-and-spa afternoon into a longer break, six of the cottages give a good sense of the range on offer, split neatly into two sizes.

Sleeping up to six across three bedrooms, Souterpot, Outer Moss and Heathery are the larger of the group. Souterpot sits closest of all to the pool, barely 100 metres from its own back door, and pairs a traditional farmhouse kitchen and wood-burning stove with far-reaching views down to Branton Lake. Outer Moss takes a more unusual approach, with bedrooms on the ground floor and an open-plan sitting room and kitchen upstairs, complete with under-floor heated bathrooms and a dining table built for entertaining. Heathery, a single-storey cottage with some of the best views over Brandon Hill, is barely 200 metres from the leisure complex, so a swim before dinner takes no planning at all.

For smaller groups, Night Fold, Heron Hill and Coally Law each sleep four across two bedrooms. Night Fold is a minute’s walk from the pool and centres on an open-plan living space with its own wood-burning stove and lovely views to Branton Lake. Heron Hill offers an open-plan living area with high beamed ceilings and a farmhouse-style kitchen fitted with all the latest equipment, all set on one level. Coally Law rounds things out with an open-plan ground-floor layout and easy access to the hot tub, pool and gym, all set against sweeping views of the Northumbrian countryside.

Every cottage comes with wifi throughout and the same walk-to-the-leisure-facilities convenience, so wherever you stay, the spa, pool and now the golf simulator are never far from the door.

B&B rooms at The Bosk

The Bosk offers three large B&B rooms sleeping up to six guests, with full access to all of Breamish Valley’s facilities, including the gym, swimming pool, tennis court and games room. Guests also get to enjoy The Bosk itself, serving evening food Wednesday to Saturday with a different theme every night.

A combined spa and golf package is on the way

With the simulator now live, the team says a combined spa-and-golf package is in the pipeline, so this already well-rounded retreat looks set to become even more of a one-stop destination for a proper reset in Northumberland.
